Microsoft Excel – Adding a Cell background Color and changing the cell text Font, Size and Color

Cell background plays an important function in excel, by changing the background this will enable your sheet to be more presentable depend on the need.

On the other hand, font plays also an important function, by definition font is known as a set of characters represented by a typeface. Each font has its own set of style. Microsoft excel provides variety of default fonts that you can use on your document.  So in this post, we are going to learn, first on how to add a cell background color then second changing the cell font, size and its color.

Adding a Cell Color


  1. Shown in the picture above select the cells B2 to E3.
  2. In the Home tab ribbon
  3. Click down the arrow down located next after the fill button
  4. In this illustration, we will choose “dark blue” as our background color


Changing the cell Font
  1. In the same process choose “cell B2 to E3
  2. Move your mouse pointer on the Home Tab
  3. Click down the arrow down after the font box and choose the desired font that suite your need, in our illustration choose “Times New Roman


Changing the cell Font Size


  1. Select the desired cell to be change in this example B2 cell is selected.
  2. In the home tab
  3. Click the font size box and choose the desired size that suite your need.
  4. In this example choose 26, this will change the font size to 26


Changing Font Color in a Cell


  1. Let us Select B2 to E3 cell.
  2. In the home tab
  3. Click the arrow down after the font color
  4. Choose the preferred color you want. In this illustration white is chosen.
